I saw Powell speak at Temple University in December 2016. He remains the best public speaker I have ever witnessed in person.

During Q&A, some smartass frat bro tried to trick him into talking about Trump, which was obviously very new and controversial at the time. Frat bro asked Powell what advice he would give to the president-elect. Powell proceeds to go on a tangent about the importance of asking for advice and how everyone needs to solicit as much advice as they can. At the end of that speech, he looks at the kid and says, “Nice try, son. Next question.”

Learned a great deal more about these men and some of the critical moments that I previously appreciated but only understood in part. Keep shining the light!

Great piece on three generals. I have a special place in my heart for Ike, both as general and president. I remember the picture of him with paratroopers the night before D-Day. As president he could have sent me to what well could have my my death as a member of the 187 Airborne in the spring of 1953 to rescue the French at Dien Ben Phu. Dulles urged him to--"The Catholics of America will support you!"--when he was lining up a putt, the story goes.

This was a very informative piece on those three generals. I never knew about "Jumpin Jim." I do know that Ike was called a socialist by the John Birchers and Colin Powell's legacy was sullied by the neocons who duped him with their WMD dog-and-pony show.

Here's my favorite general:

Major General Smedley Butler, was a highly decorated Marine and two-time recipient of the Medal of Honor. He was approached in 1933 by wealthy businessmen who allegedly sought his support for a coup against President FDR. He testified before Congress in 1934 about the plot, known as the “Business Plot.” A congressional committee investigated and confirmed that the plotters had discussed such a scheme, although no one was prosecuted.

Sound familiar?

Read Butlers book. "War is a Racket."

Apparently. we learned nothing from history as we now have a Republican party that's allowing the president of the United States to turn his office as a racket while they are in the process of overthrowing our democracy.
